Sistine Chapel

The Sistine Chapel was unbelievable! No pictures are allowed so I have added some from the internet. It is gorgeous!!! It is a very spiritual and quiet setting.

Today it is the site of the Papal conclave, the process by which a new Pope is selected.

The ceiling, commissioned by Pope Julius II and painted by Michelangelo between 1508 to 1512, has a series of nine paintings showing God's Creation of the World, God's Relationship with Mankind, and Mankind's Fall from God's Grace.

According to some scholars, the dimensions of the hall (40.23 metres in length, 13.40 metres in width and 20.70 metres in height) are copied from Solomon’s great temple in Jerusalem, which was destroyed by the Romans in 70 A.D.
